Drama aplenty at Anfield on a wet night in the League Cup; this time it wasn’t Roy Hodgson stood slumping after a defeat but fans and players alike in disbelief at an incredible THIRTY penalty record.
Goals from Jordan Rossiter and Suso put Liverpool 1-0 and 2-1 up respectively, but on each occasion Brendan Rodgers’ side were unable to hold onto the lead and squandered the opportunity to progress before the match went eventually to penalties.
20 penalties were scored in a row between the two sides, including both goalkeepers before Albert Adomah finally put his wide to end the tie.
We round up the best of the fans’ reactions to the match.
Relief more than joy at winning 14-13 on penalties. Amazing exhibition of spot-kicks from both sides.

#LFC making life very difficult for themselves at the moment. Weak at defending set-pieces and individual mistakes being punished.

Should never have gotten to that point but man how entertaining was that?
Glad to get the win in the end! Suso, sterling, Lallana and Enrique were really good on the night.
Suso has been on for less than twenty minutes but has already had the joint-most shots for Liverpool (3).

NZRED in the forums:
I worry about what this match will do for Sterling. 120 minutes, fucks up royally in ET to lead to the penalty and then has the chance to end it early in the PK and botches that horribly too.
It was a difficult evening for Rickie Lambert, who failed to impress on his full debut for the club.
Talk of a heavy shirt, Lambert’s appeared to be made of concrete. Desperate to do well, but none of the relaxed confidence he had at Soton

Watching the Liverpool game and really feel for Lambert. He wants to do so well but seems to be putting himself under so much pressure.

But there was joy for 17-year-old Jordan Rossiter who scored just nine minutes into his debut for the club.
Not celebrated as passionately since Dudek saved that pen! Absolutley delighted for @jordan_rossiter and his family & friends watching.

What a night for @jordan_rossiter Aside from how well he took his goal, put himself about and used the ball intelligently. Big future ahead
— James Pearce (@JamesPearceEcho) September 24, 2014
Grew up blue, now plays for @LFC, @jordan_rossiter following @Robbie9Fowler @Carra23, Michael Owen, Ian Rush and Steve McManaman. Go ead.

Can't be a better sight for the academy lads than a young player scoring in a senior game at Anfield. Great for Rossiter & for club! #LFC.
— Simon Steers (@sisteers) September 23, 2014
And Rossiter was replaced by fellow academy graduate Jordan Williams.
Absolutly made up for @J8williams really deserve his chance after all the hard work after injuries ????
