Amid the transfer activity this summer you may have missed, or forgotten, that Javier Manquillo’s loan from Atletico Madrid was terminated early.
The Spanish right-back was due to be at Liverpool for two seasons, with a view to a permanent deal after that, but the agreement was mutually terminated in July.
The 21-year-old has since signed for French side Marseille on loan for the season, again with a view to a permanent deal next summer.
On Wednesday he wrote a farewell message to thank Liverpool and the fans for the “great experience that will help me in the future”.

Manquillo started 18 games for the Reds last season, but didn’t feature in the Premier League in 2015, starting only in the FA Cup games against Wimbledon and Bolton.
Quite why he fell out of favour so much isn’t clear, as he had been an adequate option at right-back and many supporters would have preferred him to be given an opportunity than to stick with the much maligned and soon to be leaving Glen Johnson.
Indeed, even this summer, especially now Andre Wisdom has left on loan for Norwich City, Manquillo could have provided cover for new signing Nathaniel Clyne and been an adequate option in the Europa League.
Good luck, Javier.
