Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs. Sunderland: Klopp names unchanged Reds at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp has named his first unchanged Liverpool side in the Premier League for 41 games, for Saturday’s home clash with Sunderland.

The Reds take on David Moyes’ side at Anfield in a 3pm kickoff (GMT), looking to maintain their fight at the top of the league, having relinquished their lead last weekend.

Klopp saw his side failed to breach Southampton‘s stoic defensive line at St Mary’s, but was clearly still content with what he saw, as evidenced by his team selection against the Black Cats.

Having gone 40 league games without naming an unchanged side, Klopp kept faith in his previous lineup, partly enforced by the ongoing absence of Adam Lallana.

Loris Karius takes up his regular place in goal, behind Klopp’s first-choice back four of Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and James Milner.

With Lallana still sidelined with a groin injury picked up on duty with England, Jordan Henderson is once again joined by Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can in midfield.

Can and Wijnaldum provide support for Klopp’s three-pronged attacking line, comprised of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

Klopp left it late to make any substitutions against the Saints, and Divock Origi will be hoping to be given more time to make an impact from the bench this time around.

Daniel Sturridge, however, misses out, after suffering a minor calf strain in the week.

Origi is joined by Simon Mignolet, Ragnar Klavan, Lucas Leiva, Alberto Moreno, Ovie Ejaria and Ben Woodburn as Klopp’s alternatives.

Seventeen-year-old academy forward Woodburn makes his first appearance on the substitutes’ bench, and could go on to make his debut for the club after impressing Klopp during pre-season.

Liverpool: Karius; Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Can; Mane, Coutinho, Firmino

Substitutes: Mignolet, Klavan, Lucas, Moreno, Ejaria, Origi, Woodburn

Sunderland: Pickford; Jones, Kone, O’Shea, Van Aanholt; Watmore, N’Dong, Denayer, Pienaar; Defoe, Anichebe

Substitutes: Mannone, Manquillo, Love, Januzaj, Larsson, Khazri, Gooch
