Liverpool surged to a 4-2 victory over Hoffenheim on Wednesday night, securing their place in the Champions League through a 6-3 aggregate win.

The Reds took to Anfield to make their final push for Europe’s elite, having already won 2-1 at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena last week.

Having made five changes for Saturday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp restored his side from that night in Sinsheim in search of victory.

He was rewarded with a scintillating showing, with Emre Can netting a brace and both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino finding the back of the net on the way to the Champions League group stage.

Mark Uth and Sandro Wagner struck to cast minor doubts among the Kop, but it was a foregone conclusion by the time the latter beat Simon Mignolet with a header.

Klopp can now plan for his first taste of managing Liverpool in the Champions League, and the German will be buoyed by Wednesday’s performance.

The hope will be that the Reds can build off the field as a result of their progress to the group stage, with further reinforcements required before the end of the transfer window.

But on their performance against Hoffenheim, Klopp’s side are well and truly on their way back in Europe.
