Naby Keita to become a Liverpool player this weekend?

There are suggestions on Friday night that Naby Keita will complete his move to Liverpool this weekend.

There has been much speculation about the 22-year-old midfielder this week, with Liverpool looking to bring forward his move to Anfield after the departure of Philippe Coutinho last weekend.

Reports earlier in the week suggested that a fee of between £13-£17 million would see RB Leipzig agree to allow the Guinean to move Merseyside six months early.

This was despite public claims from Leipzig that they would not allow Keita to leave this month.

Speaking on Friday afternoon, Jurgen Klopp refused to be drawn on discussions between the two clubs to bring forward the move, simply saying: He’s a player of Leipzig, that’s what I know. He will be here in the summer.”

Klopp later added that “Until January 31st a lot of things can happen in the transfer window.”

And with Keita registering his business, NK8 Limited, in the United Kingdom on Friday, reports from Germany suggest a deal has been agreed between the two clubs.

This Is Anfield’s Chris Williams wrote on Friday night that “Information from within Leipzig this evening that Naby Keita will become a Liverpool player on Sunday.”

Leipzig host Schalke on Saturday evening, which would be Keita’s final appearance for the Bundesliga side. He could then fly to Merseyside to be present for the Reds’ home match against Man City on Sunday afternoon.

However, the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce refuted reports from Germany, saying that there was “Still no agreement between RB Leipzig and LFC over Naby Keita potentially moving to Anfield this month.

“In fact told there’s been “no progression at all” following initial discussions.”

Another journalist, Manuel Veth, claims that the deal will total around £85 million – therefore eclipsing the £75 million spent on Virgil van Dijk at the start of the month as the Reds’ record deal.
