Liverpool secured a professional 2-0 win at home to Porto on Tuesday evening, putting them in control of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
Liverpool 2-0 Porto
Champions League quarter-final, first leg
Anfield, April 9, 2019
Goals: Keita 5′, Firmino 26′
The Reds were largely superior to their Portuguese opponents despite not always being at their best, on a routine night for Jurgen Klopp‘s side.
Naby Keita continued his resurgence with a deflected early strike, before Roberto Firmino tapped home before the interval, after good work by Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The second half was a low-key affair, with Liverpool taking their foot off the gas, but it was still a good night at the office.
Here’s how Reds supporters reacted to the result on social media and our forums.
Keita’s performance was widely praised, as he shows clear signs of improvement…
Naby Keita this evening: One goal, two chances created, 3/6 take-ons, 10 ball recoveries, 8/10 tackles.
His best performance in an #LFC shirt without doubt.

Thought Keita had his best game in a Liverpool shirt tonight – though hardly much to compete with. Shows it's a matter of confidence. There's a lot more to come from him.

Naby Keita is really good. Who knew ?

Dread it. Run from it. Naby still arrives. pic.twitter.com/KZ5SOkly3Y

Keita looking so much better. A few games ago I couldn't see him starting again this season, but he's become a real option now.

Captain Henderson was also lauded in a more attacking midfield role…
Last two games showing just how important Jordan Henderson continues to be for Liverpool.

Jordan Henderson absolutely running the show here ?????
— FarleyTV (@DFImpressionist) April 9, 2019
Henderson thriving in a more advanced role is no surprise. Last time he played a full season in that position (14/15) he contributed 21 goals/assists.

Henderson is much better as an 8. His best attributes are athleticism and playing instinctively and those are best served there

“Henderson Man of the Match! The guy was everywhere.” – Rudy Ailabouni on Facebook.
“Midfield was utterly lovely to watch. Henderson another huge game.” – Iluvatar on the forums.
Another fantastic performance for Henderson — he seems to excel in a box-to-box role and he was very influential again tonight.
Wonder if the haters will be out tonight?

Henderson was superb in that more attacking role today
— LFC NEWS (@LFCTransferNRS) April 9, 2019
Henderson should continue to play in the B2B role. Looked decent there. 8/10 perfomance today.

Hendo’s best game since 2015

Fans felt the performance was solid more than spectacular…

Solid performance tonight from the whole team. 1st half we created a lot of chances, played some excellent football and deserved to go in a couple of goals up. 2nd half we just kept them at bay without exerting to much energy with Sunday's game in mind. M.O.M Salah for me ???
— Peter Phill19s ? (@PeterPhillips_) April 9, 2019
We weren’t great, but 2-0 is credible result when you use your full backs as your main attacking outlet and your best left back is missing. Also, a new midfield “unit”
— John O'Sullivan (@NotoriousJOS) April 9, 2019
Weird game. Played well, could have scored more but they could have got a couple away goals? Great result anyway, onto Chelsea.

“Job done. We ain’t getting beat 3 out there, are we?” – Nic Rogers on Facebook.
“Sort of a run of the mill game. Think we eased off saving some energy second half.” – basil1492 on the forums.

At times an untidy, awkward second half at Anfield, but #LFC get the job done without much fuss and are in control of the tie against a resilient and aggressive #FCPorto side.
— Melissa Reddy (@MelissaReddy_) April 9, 2019
Really good result not to be underestimated, clean sheet on top of all, 2nd leg will be a challenge but you'd back LFC to get an away goal
— Dinesh Kumar (@DHardayal) April 9, 2019
Good result and a decent performance. A couple of key players rested as well. Roll on Sunday!
— Joseph Norton (@JosephNorton97) April 9, 2019
Man City’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham could also benefit Liverpool…
Excellent result for Spurs. The cleansheet will make City a bit nervous in the return leg.
— Red (@TaintlessRed) April 9, 2019
Try resting players in that 2nd leg now Pep, you bald fraud ?
— Dinesh Kumar (@DHardayal) April 9, 2019
“I’m more happy that City lost to Tottenham. It means Tottenham won’t roll over in the league for them.” – Hisagi Rex on Facebook.
“City losing also good…Aguero missing a pen, Palace this weekend.” – Libero on the forums.
I thought City were never going to lose another game?

Spurs win 1-0. Fully deserved. Sheer intensity & Manchester City nowhere near their best. All on for the second leg.
