Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has praised the hard work of his side after they beat an in-form Real Madrid side 0-1 at the Bernabeu.
Yossi Benayoun’s 82nd minute goal won the match for the Reds who became only the second ever British team to win there.
And Benitez, who was forced to start without captain Steven Gerrard and lost striker Fernando Torres to injury, was delighted with his team’s performance.
He told reporters, “We knew it was going to be very difficult. They were winning games in a row so we knew they had a lot of confidence.
“We needed to work very hard. We had some chances and at the end from the free kick we scored a very good goal. Without Gerrard and Torres in that second half the team was doing well.
“It’s important in Europe not to concede but especially here because they’ve been scoring so many goals, but our teamwork was very good.
“I was very pleased with the team’s defending and also we were going forward and trying to score. At the end 1-0 is a very good result.”
