Aquilani relishing Kop atmosphere

New Liverpool signing Alberto Aquilani says he can’t wait to play his first game for the club and run out at Anfield in front of The Kop after hearing great things from former teammate John Arne Riise.

Aquilani reaveled how he has spoken to Riise, who he played with at Roma, about his move to the club.

The Italian international midfielder said, “Obviously I am a friend of Riise’s and he’s spoken a lot about Liverpool to me. I’ve spoken to him about the Kop and the great fans and I can’t wait to start.

“I have never played at Anfield but I have heard a lot about the unique atmosphere you breathe there.”

Aquilani, who cost the Reds around £18million as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, won’t be in action until the end of September as he recovers from an ankle injury.

He told reporters this morning that he is looking forward to working with Reds boss Rafa Benitez.

He continued, “Rafa was very important in me coming here. Riise spoke very well of him and said he could help me grow as a player.

“I was already aware and appreciated his work even before the opportunity arose to come here. I like the way the team plays and certainly it was a deciding factor.

“I’m very proud Rafa chose me. I also want to thank Eduardo Macia, who was very important.”
