Loan Watch: Darby joins Swindon

Liverpool youngster Stephen Darby has joined League One side Swindon Town on loan until the end of the season.

The former reserve team captain has made two starts this season, at home to Fiorentina and away to Reading in the FA Cup. He has been overlooked throughout Glen Johnson‘s two months on the sidelines.

Manager Rafa Benitez has preferred to play Jamie Carragher, and more recently Javier Mascherano, out of position rather than blood the 21 year old Liverpudlian.

Despite his mistake against Fiorentina late-on, he performed admirably against Reading but was promptly dropped for Philipp Degen for the replay and has now seen the manager prefer to play Mascherano in his position instead.

    PPS Kelly as spent 3 months injured himself this season and based on his performance i’m sure he’d of had more game time.

    Saying that Lucas and Insua do not get injured does not make them good enough for Liverpool. They are shocking I don’t know how they became pro footballers. This includes Ngog they have had plenty (too many) chances to prove themselves and have only shown they are a liability on the pitch. Kelly, Pacheco and Nemeth have genuine ability anyone who has seen them play briefly for the 1st team or in the reserve matches can see that.

    Look at the kids that get brought on and encouraged and developed at Arsenal and Utd. Benitez has bought every player in the current squad bar Gerrard and Carragher. Name one academy player that had come through in the Benitez era? Maybe Warnock but he was never given a real chance and sold off – and look where he is now and playing well.

    Benitez had the perfect chance to play kelly when Johnson was injured but instead put Masch at right back. He is a terrible man-manager and this season has shown that he has lost the plot.

    Warnock played 67 times scored 1 But he never got a chance apart from the 67 chances he got that is.
    Rafa’s academy years started 11 months ago not much of a “era” as you put it.
    PS I’m starting to think its the 3rd option.

    rubbish, darby has shown he is not ready and thats clear, kelly is far better, and thats clear, darby needs games, as does keely but kelly is better at most roles in the team and can play in different team systems.
    kelly, amoo, ince, pacheco, inusa, nemeth, among others are all good players that can make it, and their are many others that rafa has brought to the club for hardly any money but yet some mugs can not see any good things that rafa has done.
