Report: Sebastian Coates to return to Nacional

Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates is to be loaned to Nacional, according to reports in Uruguay.

The 6ft 5in centre-back, who was signed from Nacional in August 2011, is currently sidelined after suffering an ACL injury while on international duty in August.

The 23-year-old was expected to miss the whole of the 2013/14 season with the injury but explained back in November that he hoped to return earlier in order to potentially be part of Uruguay’s World Cup squad.

“You always think positively, I think that’s the most important thing” he told the official LFC website. “In my case, I keep myself going by focusing on getting back as quickly as I can, and with the national team, the World Cup is another goal to help me with my recovery.”

Uruguayan media outlet Subrayado claim Coates will re-sign for Nacional on a six-month loan, presumably in an attempt to get fit ahead of the World Cup.

Coates was signed for a fee that could rise to £7 million after impressing at the 2011 Copa America.

Liverpool confirmed the loan of fellow young centre-back Tiago Ilori to Granada on Monday.

Meanwhile, another youngster who was loaned out this month, full-back Ryan McLaughin, impressed on his professional debut for Barnsley on Saturday.

I don’t see a future with him at the club considering our new playstyle. We got Ilori and Sakho for the future who are better on the ball.

    • Michael King

Are you kidding? Seb’s strength is his comfort on the ball. What he lacks is speed and the intensity for the pl, at least for now. I still have a little hope for him.

    Good luck Seb.

It’s a pity. I really think this guy has some very good qualities. He’s actually one of our best defenders in the air and is a fairly talented with the ball. His lack of pace lets him down though, and his performances are not without mistakes…although let’s face it, which one of our defenders is. Probably not the right fit for Premier League football, but I think he might flourish in a more technical league like Serie A or La Liga. BundesLiga would be a bad place for him as well.

  • Gano1

    He’s been unlucky!!!

It is unbelievable that there are only 10 days left in the January
transfer window and Rodgers & Co have not yet brought in a single
player. Meanwhile Everton has brought in McGeady and they are about to
announce Lacina Traore as well. Tottenham on the other hand has a squad
depth capable of presenting TWO solid starting lineups.
    We were much
weaker than both these teams both in terms of depth AND starting XI in
paper prior to the beginning of the season and even more now with all
our injuries and the failed signings of Rodgers. We should had been the
first team out of all the contenders for the 4th spot to have signed
players because we were/are the only ones who really need to. I don’t
understand what is the cause of this FRUSTRATING PROVOCATIVE AND
UNPROFESSIONAL delay especially now that we will also miss Lucas for
about 6-8 weeks! If they don’t bring in at least 2 starting XI players
in this window we are doomed. No one even mentioned Tottenham all these
past months and here they are on equal points with us and a world class
squad. Everton’s defence is made out of titanium and they have 8 TOP
midfielders to choose from and now with Traore they have 2 excellent
strikers along with Lukaku. WE WILL NEVER FINISH 4TH BECAUSE WE DON’T

This is how our starting XI against Everton looks right now bearing in mind ALL the injuries which are still there:
Mignolet, Cissokho, Skrtel, Toure, Johnson, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling (or Coutinho), Suarez, Sturridge.
Is there anyone out there who believes that this team can win the derby on Tuesday?

    BUY PLAYERS!!!!!!!!

Not at all refuting that Liverpool’s squad isn’t a thin one, or that reinforcement is necessary in order to further mould the team, but this is completely unjust scaremongering.

The XI that competed so comprehensively away to Everton earlier this season was:
Mignolet, Flanagan, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson, Suarez, Coutinho

This is an XI that is missing three now key components of the Liverpool squad – Sakho, Sturridge, Sterling – that, if fit, will more than likely start against Everton in a derby which Liverpool have every chance of winning.

Typical knee-jerk response to Rodgers loaning out two players, Coates and Ilori, that haven’t even featured this season, and weren’t likely to either.

      • Curse The Sky

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Mate you are hilarious. Your response further proves my point that the internet is a free roaming jungle-hub which idiots and ignorant fools like you take advantage of to say what they can’t say infront of their mates cause they will get bitch slapped! YOU WILL NEVER BEAT EVERTON IF RODGERS SELECTS THE STARTING XI OF THE VILLA GAME! END OF STORY! YOU WILL NEVER BEAT EVERTON IF NONE OF THE INJURED PLAYERS RETURNS AND STILL RODGERS SELECTS THE VILLA STARTING XI!

  • allaboutanfield

I just simply don’t understand the logic of sending SC out on loan when Liverpool have so many first team players injured and some are playing well below par. I thought BR complained that his squad is thin and don’t have the players to cover each other.

  • Redblooded Male

    See ya.

  • Johhny Big Banana

Slightly disappointed, I genuinely thought he might fit into B/R’s philosophy. I don’t think he’s warranted the derision that some have given him. He was never woeful in any games, other than maybe the Oldham game, but who else covered themselves in glory for that match… We are far to quick to judge these days some players take longer to adjust…there’s countless amounts of examples in the EPL of this.

  • Prince

At this moment I wouldn’t mind he is just as bad

spending 7mill for the future i believe that more coming from money bags city not LFC. if we can spend 7 for the future mathematically we can afford to spend 15-20 for something we need now. Allen for the future too at 15mill+?
