No sixth time this season

Liverpool will not be retaining their European crown this May in Paris. A somewhat flattering scoreline of 2-0 to Portugeese side Benfica ended the Reds campaign for this season.

It was the same old story for Rafael Benitez’s side as the team dominated the game, created chance after chance and failed to score.

Twice the woodwork was strook, twice the side netting, twice penalty claims, thrice the ball went agonisingly wide – and of course their was that custom disallowed goal for Robbie Fowler.

The match ended with “five times” bellowing around Anfield as the defiant home crowd saluted their side and showed they truely are the greatest fans on the planet.

But the lack of a finishing touch again proved crucial – the first leg saw a dissapointing performance where the Reds failed to create a scoring chance, so different to tonight but with the same result – no goals.
