THE TRANSFER TRACKER:
Daniel Alves
Sevilla, Right back / midfield, Age 22, Brazilian
04/07/06: Sevilla president Jose Marie Del Nido says that he laid out the terms for the deal, but as of Tuesday, he knows of no deal.
23/06/06: Sevilla sign right back Andreas Hinkel, perhaps paving the way for Alves to leave.
13/06/06: Sevilla president Jose Marie Del Nido: “We don’t want to sell him but when a player wants to leave you can’t force him to stay.
“He has told us he likes Liverpool’s offer though he isn’t pressuring us.
“They have come back to us with a new offer but we have rejected it.”
Sevilla are rumoured to want in the region of £12m for him.
11/06/06: Alves has been frequently linked for a couple of weeks and is said to be high on Rafa’s wanted list, just the fee Seville are asking seems a problem. Cisse’s injury could affect this one.
Verdict: Deal is said to have fallen through now
Jermaine Pennant
Birmingham, Right midfielder, Age 23, English
30/06/06: “LIVERPOOL are preparing to swoop for Jermaine Pennant, as the Daniel Alves deal looks further away than ever.
Rafa Benitez has now decided to switch his attention to the 23-year-old Birmingham winger having virtually given up on negotiations with Seville.” Reports the [Liverpool Echo].
Verdict: With the Alves deal still not happening, a cheaper option could be the pacy wide man, good chance this could happen now.
Hatem Trabelsi
Ajax, Right back, Age 29, Tunisian
30/06/06: Reports in the press today suggest that Reds manager Rafael Benitez has been impressed by Trabelsi’s performances in the World Cup whilst playing for his country. The added fact that he is available on a free transfer from Ajax has also prompted speculation surrounding the right-back and a move to the Premiership. [Full Article]
Verdict: Doubtful, Alves remains top target and Krompkamp would need to leave.
Fabio Aurelio
Valencia, Left back, Age 27, Brazilian
28/06/06: Fabio Aurelio looks set to join the Reds on a Bosman this week, according to the Liverpool Echo today. The full-back has been linked for several months, but it is claimed he will now sign on July 1 when his contract ends with Valencia.
PLAYER SIGNED, JULY 5TH.
Dirk Kuyt
Feyenoord, Striker, Age 25, Dutch
26/06/06: “If I am going to leave Feyenoord, I would prefer to make the decision quickly. That would be the best thing for everyone. I spoke with my manager (Erwin Koeman) before the World Cup and decided not to do anything until the tournament was over. I will call him in a few days’ time to see if there is any interest but I would love to play in England and there are a few clubs I dream about playing for. It is not smart to talk about these things but if the right club wanted me, I would make the decision.”
25/06/06: While there are yet to be any recent quotes linking the Reds to Kuyt, it is widely assumed Rafa is interested. This “interest” is expected to rise now that Holland is has been dumped out of the World Cup.
23/06/06: “I want very much to play in The Premiership. I want to join one of the teams at the top and I hope we can play England in the quarter finals. It will give me a chance to show what I can do. At the end of tournament, I find out what all the possibilities are.”
Liverpool, Tottenham, and the Toon are rumoured to be interested in the powerful striker who could be available for around £10m.
Verdict: Reports claim we are Kuyt’s preferred destination, but the Reds need to finance the move first.
Simao Sabrosa
Benfica, Right Winger, Age 26, Portugese
24/06/06: Benfica President Luis Vieria: “We have already received several offers for other Benfica players, but only one of our players will be able to leave the club, and that is Simão.” Several sources claim the Reds are likely to re-ignite their interest in the skillful winger after failing to capture him last summer.
Verdict: The asking price of 14m means this deal probably won’t go ahead.
Craig Bellamy
Blackburn, Striker, Age 26, Welsh
22/06/06: Bellamy signs for Reds in a deal worth just over £6m.
17/06/06: The Guardian claim the deal is done, with Benitez opting for Bellamy over Bent due to Cisse’s injury and non-sale.
16/06/06: Bellamy’s £6m buyout clause expires in two weeks’ time and Bellamy would be keen to join the Reds, according to the
10/06/06: Reports on Saturday indicate Rafa may trigger the £6m buy-out clause in striker Bellamy’s contract. With Cisse out and Defoe, Kuyt, and Bent looking to be overpriced, Welshman Bellamy seems a suitable option.
Verdict: Signed, sealed, delivered – July 1st officially signs.
Steed Malbranque
Fulham, Midfielder, Age 26, French
20/06/06: Reds look to have dropped out of the race to sign Malbranque; meaning Boro and Man City will battle it out for his signature.
11/06/06: Reports on Sunday claim Fulham have put a £5m price tag on Malbranque’s head, with Newcastle and Liverpool leading the way to sign him.
Verdict: Looking unlikely, Mboro, Man City, Newcastle interested.
Damien Duff
Chelsea, Left wing, Age 27, Irish
13/06/06: The Duff-to-Liverpool link appeared in reports again today. Supposedly the Reds and Tottenham are leading the chase to sign the Chelsea winger.
Verdict: Nice rumour, no chance Chelsea would sell to us though!
Mark Viduka
Middlesbrough, Striker, Age 30, Australian
11/06/06: Mark Viduka is linked with the Reds for a fee of around £1.5m.
Verdict: You’re having a laugh arent you?
Alberto Zapater
Real Zaragoza, Midfielder, Age 20, Spanish
9/06/06: Touted as a possible replacement for Didi Hamann who may be off to Bolton, Zapater is a young midfielder at Zaragoza who is entering the last year of his contract there. Reports say the price on his head is £4m but may be available for much less than that.
Verdict: Good chance.
Mauro German Camoranesi
Juventus, Midfielder, Age 30, Italian
9/06/06: Media reports with Juventus’ possible relegation Camoranesi and other top stars would be available cut-price, and with Liverpool needing a right winger 2 plus 2 can equal five?
Verdict: Could be available, but looking doubtful.
