August POM: Daniel Agger

Danish centre half Daniel Agger has been voted the This Is Anfield members August 2006 player of the month following some impressive performances.

Agger was signed back in the January transfer window but failed to get a real chance to impress due to niggling injuries, and despite another knock in pre-season he was given the nod to start the Charity Shield against Chelsea. A match the Reds won and Agger looked mighty impressive, composed and confident on the ball.

That form continued and coupled with the injury to Jamie Carragher on the opening day of the season at Sheffield United, Agger has been impressive alongside Sami Hyypia in the heart of defence.

Agger’s stunning 30 yard strike to mark the Kop’s 100th anniversary in the opening home game against West Ham no doubt went a long way to deciding the vote.

In a close second was midfield terrior Momo Sissoko who put in a man of the match winning performance when dominating the midfield against Lampard and Ballack and Co in the Charity Shield.

Third place went to in-form striker Peter Crouch.
