Weekend news round-up

Steven Gerrard‘s yellow card for England on Saturday means he will now miss the match in Croatia on Wednesday through suspension. Good news for Liverpool with the home match with Blackburn this Saturday and now the club captain will be fresher and not risk picking up an injury.

He won’t travel with the squad to Croatia and will be make in Merseyside to train with the remaining players.

“As a player, you want to be involved in all the big games, so I’m going home really frustrated, not just with not getting three points but also with missing the Croatia game.

I will be cheering the boys on from home. Hopefully, they will turn in a good performance and get the result.”

Dirk Kuyt picked up an ankle injury though for Holland in their 1-1 draw with Bulgaria. He is doubtful for their game against Albania, but the injury isnt expected to rule him out on the Blackburn match.

Salif Diao could finally be leaving Liverpool with Championship side Stoke City wanting the midfielder on loan. The Senegal international is not wanted at Anfield and his contract expires this summer. He looks to have played his last game for the club.

“I need to be playing regular, competitive football and Stoke will give me that chance. The Championship is tough, but I need that to get my sharpness back.”
