Reds see of Birmingham

Daniel Agger’s goal from close range proved the only goal of the game as Liverpool progressed to the fifth round of the Carling Cup at the expense of Birmingham.

Most worryingly for Liverpool is the first half injury to midfielder Momo Sissoko, who suffered a dislocated shoulder and is expected to face six weeks on the sidelines meaning he will miss Sunday’s match at Arsenal.

Another disappointment from the match was Craig Bellamy’s poor penalty which he missed just after an hour of play.

Benitez opted to field a much changed but still very strong looking side, with Jerzy Dudek making his first start of the season and impressing with some good saves.
