Fernando Torres has been voted This Is Anfield‘s Player of the Month for March, with the Spanish sensation having grabbed seven goals in seven games, including another hat-trick, as he took his tally to 28 goals for the season.
El Nino finished with 60% of the vote, ahead of new signing Martin Skrtel (21%) and fellow centre back Sami Hyypia (6%). Midfielders Gerrard and Mascherano picked up 5% of the votes each.
Meanwhile, second placed Martin Skrtel has settled in impressively since his January move and March has seen him excel in the heart of the Reds defence with his pace being a huge advantage to have, meaning Jamie Carragher has been shifted to right back in several matches.
One fan in the forums wrote “I voted Skrtel because he is showing brilliant potential and his performance against Everton really capped it off for me,” another praised the Slovakian saying “The lad has come into the club from a pretty poor league and owned most people he has come up against. Looks like he’s been here for years already and is undoubtedly going to get better and better” and another said “He looks pretty promising, heir apparent to Sami’s jersey in the long-term future.”
Others praised third placed Sami Hyypia stating “Simply beacuse he looks so motivated, and wins absolutely everything in the air. He’s really in form, and at the moment, I can’t imagine the starting XI without him” and “Hyypia has excelled week after week. I imagine a lot of Skrtel’s form has been aided by the big man from Porvoo.”
While another summed it up well with:
“Torres is the natural nomination, but I wholly agree with the backing for Skrtel, he’s been quite outstanding considering he’s been with us for merely weeks.
Another who has stood out is Sami…. fully deserves a testimonial year and has been a pillar at the back when he’s played…. Sunday’s game showed just what pure class he STILL is.”
