Gareth Barry could have to publicly express his desire to leave Aston Villa for Anfield in a bid to pressure his current club in accepting Liverpool’s bid for him.
It is thought that Villa are not backing down over their £18million valuation of the England international midfielder, though Liverpool are only prepared to offer around £14million.
This morning’s Guardian newspaper reports that Rafael Benitez will not be outmuscled by Villa’s demands and could begin to look elsewhere.
The paper also suggests a new offer has been put forward to Newcastle Utd for midfielder James Milner which is closer to the North East club’s £7million valuation of the 22-year-old.
