Reds target on target for England

Gareth Barry scored England’s opening goal in their friendly match with Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday night. Barry finished with a volley from 6 yards from a Wayne Bridge cross.

The Liverpool transfer target and Aston Villa captain lined up alongside Reds captain Steven Gerrard in the centre of midfield, having set-up Gerrard for his goal against USA on Wednesday. The sight of Gerrard and Barry alongside each other is something which could be a common occurence next season with Rafa Benitez keen to sign the England international.

Barry, who is the only England player to have started every match during the 2007/08 season, is expected to hold further talks with Villa boss Martin O’Neill once he returns from international duty in order to decide his future.

Liverpool have already had one bid for Barry rejected last month and are willing to offer players plus cash in any deal.

England won 3-0, Jermaine Defoe with the 2 other goals. Steven Gerrard played the full 90 minutes, Peter Crouch played the second half.
