Reds’ Olympians in action today

Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva (pictured), Javeier Mascherano and Ryan Babel are all in action today for their countries as the Men’s Football gets started at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

The Games don’t officially begin until tomorrow, but Football begins slightly earlier owing to the tight schedule of the tournament.

Lucas’ Brazil take on Belgium at 10am (UK) this morning, Mascherano’s Argentina play the Ivory Coast at 12:45pm (UK), whilst Babel’s Holland take on Nigeria, also at 12:45pm.

Argentina are the current champions of Olympic football, after they beat Paraguay 1-0 at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The matches are all live on the BBC’s ‘œred button’ Olympic Games coverage.

The final of the Men’s Football will be played in Beijing on August 23rd at 5am (UK).

This Is Anfield wishes all Olympic Reds the best of luck with their country’s campaigns, and looks forward to seeing them back at Anfield soon!
