Reds run riot in Oslo

Liverpool continued their impressive pre-season campaign with a convincing victory over Norweigan side Valerenga in Oslo.

Valerenga’s Bislett Stadion was packed full off Liverpool fans, mostly from Scandanavia who had turned up to see the Rafael Benitez’s team’s penultimate pre-season friendly.

Benitez opted to start Fernando Torres and Robbie Keane together up front, and Jamie Carragher partnered Daniel Agger in central defence with Slovakian Martin Skrtel out with a groin strain.

Liverpool started the game impressively, knocking the ball around well and half way through the first half, Xabi Alonso’s well placed curling strike from just outside the area gave the Reds the lead.

However, captain Steven Gerrard worryingly limped off injured a few minutes later and could be a doubt for the start of the season next week.

Valerenga started to worry Liverpool as the first half went on, threatening several times and catching Agger off-guard, but Liverpool held on to see out the lead til half-time.

The second half was more lively with Valerenga equalising but goals from Yossi Benayoun and Fernando Torres soon often salvaged Liverpool’s lead.

With just two minutes left, young striker David Ngog ran through on goal to coolly finish and score the Reds’ fourth of the evening, and his second goal since signing this summer.

Liverpool now play Lazio at Anfield in their final pre-season friendly on Friday night (kick-off 8pm).
