Late penalty saves Liverpool against Atletico

Match Summary

Steven Gerrard converted a 95th minute penalty to deny Atletico Madrid a win at Anfield after the Spaniards had lead through Maxi Rodriguez’s first half goal.

Having earlier been denied a penalty on two occasions earlier, the linesman awarded one after Gerrard appeared to have been fouled. He took the spot kick well to share the points and keep both sides level on 8 points.

With Marseille having beat PSV on the same night, Liverpool require just a point from their next two group matches – at home to Marseille and at PSV – in order to progress to the knockout stages.
