Lee nostalgic after “excellent” draw

Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee has hailed the club’s Champions League draw against Real Madrid as ‘œexcellent’ and says he hopes the Reds can produce the same result as the 1981 European Cup Final against the Spaniards.

When the two teams meet in February it will be their first competitive meeting since that final in Paris nearly thirty years ago.

On that day, Liverpool won their third European Cup thanks to an 82nd minute Alan Kennedy goal and midfielder Lee played the full ninety minutes.

He told the club’s official web site, “It’s an excellent draw against a terrific club and a terrific institution and for Liverpool to go and play against them is terrific. It’s a terrific tie against a very very good club and a very good team.

“I have very, very happy memories of that game. Hopefully we will enjoy similar memories in February.”
