‘˜Think positive’ says Rafa

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has ignored the criticism he is receiving from the media and fans right now and says the club are in a great position to claim their first league Championship in 19 years.

Recent tactical blunders and public outbursts have caused Benitez to come under immense scrutiny, adding to the pressure after seeing Liverpool go four games without a win and drop to third in the Premier League.

But the Spaniard is urging his players and fans to stay positive and look at the position they are in with 15 games of the season to go.

Ahead of Sunday’s crunch league clash at home to title-rivals Chelsea, Benitez said, “The players know that, after a lot of years talking about being contenders, this is a fantastic opportunity so they are really together and you can see the mentality of all of them.

“This season, from the beginning we were so good, we were scoring goals and winning games and everyone could see that it was an opportunity for us.

“People were saying, ‘Maybe it’ll be this year’ so we have created a lot of the expectation ourselves. But we are still in this position so everybody knows that we have to do our best..

“We are in the best position that the team or club has been in for the last 15 years or something so we have to be positive and think about the positives, concentrate on Chelsea.”

Liverpool vs Chelsea is on Sunday, 1st February. Kick-off at Anfield is 4pm and the match is live on Sky Sports.
