Degen injured’¦ again

Liverpool defender Philipp Degen looks set to spend a further five weeks on the sidelines after picking up a metatarsal injury during the Liverpool Reserve’s game against Manchester United Reserves last week.

Degen has had a troublesome start to his career at Anfield since signing from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer last summer.

After breaking his ribs in a collision with Sami Hyypia during the Carling Cup victory over Crewe earlier this season, Degen has been faced with several injury problems.

This latest injury looks set to put him out of action until mid-March. Thankfully, the Swiss sicknote has been replaced by Hyypia in the revised Champions League squad for the knockout stages.

Degen has three years left on his contract with Liverpool after the end of this season.
