George Gillett’s lies exposed

You’ve probably heard about George Gillett’s impromptu meeting with Spirit of Shankly spokesman Jay McKenna on Sunday. (If not, click here to read it.)

McKenna raised three key issues with Gillett; the false promise about debt not being put onto the club, the approach to Jurgen Klinsmann and the lies about the new stadium.

McKenna told the Liverpool Echo:

‘œThe third one was the stadium. I told Gillett the situation with the stadium angered fans, because Gillett himself had promised a spade in the ground in 60 days, and it still had not happened.

‘œHe denied making this claim and said it was a ‘˜made-up quote by the media’ and he would be interested to see such a quote.”

Well, George, here it is, this is you at the original press conference making your memorable claim about a spade in the ground “within 60 days”.

And just in case the video doesn’t load for you or gets taken off YouTube, here is the article on the official LFC website:

“The shovel needs to be in the ground within the next 60 days and you will soon see a great big swimming pool being dug out on Stanley Park.

As for approaching Klinsmann due to his links with Adidas, Nike and Reebok then thanks for confirming you really haven’t got a clue what managing a football club is about. And claiming he would be a “consultant”, well that’s not what the partner you brought to the club, Tom Hicks, said about it; “We attempted to negotiate an option, as an insurance policy, to have him become manager if Rafa left for Real Madrid or other clubs that were rumoured in the UK press.”

And the snide comments about Benitez, the irony is probably lost on George that one of McKenna’s main points was about the owner’s lack of backing for the manager and them not understanding The Liverpool Way of keeping things behind closed doors.

If ever people wondered if Gillett was the ‘good cop’ in the Hicks-Gillett relationship, he has gone a long way to making sure we all know he most definitely isn’t and is completely and utterly NOT a “custodian for Liverpool FC”.

Gillett and Hicks have both continually lied to the fans and shown complete and utter disrespect in doing so. The sooner both leave the club, the better.
