Mascherano shrugs off Spanish links

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has shrugged off speculation suggesting that several Spanish clubs are interested in taking the Argentine international from Merseyside this summer.

Mascherano has played a key part in Liverpool’s success so far this season, impressing new Argentina coach Diego Maradona enough to warrant him giving Mascherano the national side’s captaincy.

Reports this weekend suggest several top clubs in La Liga have been keeping an eye on him, but Mascherano says he is only focussed on the rest of this season at Anfield.

‘œI have no idea if a Spanish team want me,’ Mascherano said.

‘œI’m just focused on having a good season with Liverpool and then we will see.’
