Title hopes hang by a thread

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has failed to concede the Premier League title, saying his side still have the ability to steal the title from under the noses of Manchester United, despite yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Anfield.

The result leaves the Reds seven points behind league leaders United with 12 games to go and Benitez knows that victory at Old Trafford on March 14th is utterly essential now.

After the game, he told press, “It is a bad result. We can’t change things now and we just have to prepare the teams for the next games, especially in the Premier League. I think we have to beat United now.”

“If we want to reduce the gap, we need to win the next two games and beat United.

“I have confidence we can beat Middlesbrough and Sunderland and then it will be a different situation. It’s not easy for United to slip up, but there are still 12 games to go.”

Liverpool now switch their attentions to Europe and the trip to Real Madrid for the first leg of their Champions League second round tie against the Spanish giants.
