Massive blow as Benayoun is injured

Liverpool have been dealt a major blow ahead of their crucial games with Real Madrid and Man United as in-form midfielder Yossi Benayoun has reportedly picked up a hamstring injury.

The Israeli captain, who scored the winner in the Bernabeu and won our player of the month award for February, faces two weeks out.

With Albert Riera already suspended, Benayoun was a definite starter for the Madrid match on Tuesday night.

Rafa Benitez will now be desperately hoping Fernando Torres can recover from his ankle injury in time and allow Dirk Kuyt to operate along the right of midfield, with Ryan Babel or Fabio Aurelio on the left.

If the initial diagnosis of Benayoun’s injury is correct, he will be back in contention for the home match with Aston Villa on the 21st March.
