Rafa pins season woes on Torres injuries

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says the Reds’ season would have been better had they not lost striker Fernando Torres for large periods of it.

Torres has only played 15 league games for the Reds this season after a succession of hamstring and ankle problems. He’s scored 8 times in these games.

In recent weeks it seems the club’s title chances have been blown and Benitez says it would have been a completely different story had Torres’ unfortunate injuries not arisen.

He told reporters, “The worst thing has been the injuries to Torres. He has been our main striker and scored a lot of goals for us last season.

“And this season could have been totally different with him. Maybe if Torres had not been injured so much things would be different, but we cannot change the situation now. Everybody has players who get injured.”

Torres looks set to miss tonight’s Premier League clash at home to Sunderland at Anfield. Kick-off on Merseyside is 8pm.
