Barry signs for City

Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry has signed for Manchester City in a £12million move, ending Liverpool’s transfer saga with the midfielder once and for all.

The Reds were on the verge of signing the England international last summer, but a transfer fee couldn’t be agreed between Liverpool and Villa.

But the speculation linking Barry with a move to Anfield continued throughout the season, until finally today Barry put pen to paper on a lucrative deal at financially-equipped City, despite saying he’d only leave the Midlands club for Champions League football.

Only this morning, Steven Gerrard explained how much he’d like to play alongside Barry at Anfield. [Full Story]

The news may come as good news to Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is rumoured to be discontented at the club following the Barry saga. With speculation linking Alonso with a move back to Spain this summer, Reds fans will be hoping Barry’s signing for City puts an end to any doubts Alonso has about Rafa Benitez’s trust in him.

The Reds continue to be linked with several big players including Argentines Carlos Tevez and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
