International Reds Round-up

Several Liverpool players were in action this weekend for their countries, with good news all round.

  • Steven Gerrard helped England to a 4-0 thrashing of Kazakhstan in their World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign.
  • The Reds skipper played a big part in creating England’s two opening first half goals from Gareth Barry and ex-Red Emile Heskey. Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard completed the rout in the second half.

  • Dirk Kuyt started and played the majority of Holland’s 2-1 victory over Iceland, with Ryan Babel making a substitutes appearance 14 minutes from time.

  • Javier Mascherano was injured during Argentina’s 1-0 win over Columbia but was forced to complete the 90 minutes with the Argentines having already used their three substitutions.

  • Daniel Agger helped Denmark keep a clean sheet and sneak a 1-0 victory over rival Scandinavians Sweden.

  • Andrea Dossena came on in the second half of Italy’s impressive 3-0 victory over Northern Ireland. The Italian handed in a transfer request at Anfield earlier this week.

  • And youngsters David Ngog, Krisztian Nemeth and Peter Gulacsi were all in action for their countries under-20s and under-21s sides.
