Torres: Good things come in small packages

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has called on Rafa Benitez to sign more “small players with quality” to turn the Reds into a team more like Spain.

Torres will play his final game of the FIFA Confederations Cup for his country today when Spain take on South Africa in the third place playoff (kick-off 2pm UK).

And with pre-season training back on Merseyside next on the agenda for Torres, he has urged Benitez to use his national side as a way of find a winning formula to beat Manchester Utd to the title next season.

He said, “We have to improve at home. We lost a lot of points at home against teams in the middle of the table. If we can get 10 more points at home I think at the end of the season we can win the Premier League. It was frustrating but football is difficult against these kinds of teams.

“We need players with quality to try to win these kinds of games and I hope Liverpool will bring in players like this. I hope Liverpool will bring in players like David Silva, Juan Manual Mata or David Villa: small players with quality ‘“ like Manchester United had Carlos Tevez or Paul Scholes.”
