Rumour Mill: Liverpool in move for Amorebieta?

Well there’s two weeks of the summer transfer window left open and if we learnt any lessons from yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham, then maybe it’s that our squad isn’t quite ready yet.

The summer has already seen the signings of Glen Johnson and Alberto Aquilani, but there’s a lot of speculation flying around today that Rafa Benitez is not done in the transfer market yet.

The Mirror is one of a number of sources which suggest Benitez is ready to launch a bid for Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta.

The 24-year-old centre-back has never made a full international appearance for Spain, with 105 appearances under his belt for Bilbao.

Born in Venezuela, he won the U-19 European Championships with Spain in 2004.

Liverpool struggled with central defenders during yesterday’s Premier League defeat to Tottenham, with both Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel receiving head injuries in a first half collision.

The Reds were forced to introuced 18-year-old Daniel Ayala at centre-back during the second half as cover for the injured Skrtel.
