Gerrard expects Chelsea and Man City to suffer

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has once again urged critics not to write off the Reds’ chances of the Premier League title just yet, expecting the African Cup of Nations tournament in January to make a difference in the title race.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal all have key players who will be missing in January as they play in the tournament to be hosted in Angora this time round.

Chelsea will be without Didier Drogba, John Obi Mikel, Salomon Kalou and Michael Essien, Man City will miss the services of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure, whilst Arsenal will lose Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song.

Gerrard told the official Liverpool FC web site, “Everyone will have blips and some of the teams lose important players with the African Nations. It’s a long season – there are a lot of games and a lot football to be played yet.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City have got off to good starts but there is a long way to go before you start predicting who will be up there at the end.”

Liverpool could be without Moroccan youngster Nabil El Zahr whilst the tournament is being played.
