Mascherano escapes punishment

Javier Mascherano will not receive any disciplinary action after clashing with Leeds Utd striker Jermaine Beckford during Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Mascherano appeared to swing an arm at Beckford’s head during the Carling Cup third round tie, an incident which went unnoticed by match referee Alan Wiley.

But after reviewing video evidence, Wiley had decided that no further action needs to be taken against Mascherano and he will not serve any suspension.

Mascherano returns to action on Saturday as the Reds host Hull City in the Premier League. Kick-off at Anfield is 3pm.
