No. 15 – Liverpool 3 – 2 FC Bruges

After defeating Hibernian, Real Sociedad, Slask Wroclaw, Dynamo Dresden and Barcelona on the road to the 1976 UEFA Cup Final, On 28th of April 1976, FC Bruges visited Anfield to contest the 1976 UEFA Cup Final 1st leg.

It was another memorable Anfield historic night with the Kop in full voice, however the visitors quickly stunned Anfield when they took the early lead with two goals inside the first 15 minutes.

At half time, Bob Paisley replaced John Toshach with Jimmy Case – a substitution which would change the game… It wasn’t until the 59th minute until Liverpool would open their account, when Ray Kennedy striked a wonderful shot into the roof of the net from just outside the area.

Five minutes later, Liverpool took the lead. Jimmy Case grabbed Liverpool’s second when a Ray Kennedy shot had struck the post and then only a few minutes later Steve Heighway was brought down in the area leaving the referee with no other alternative but to award the penalty with Kevin Keegan making no mistake sending the Bruges goalkeeper Jensen the wrong way.
