Rush hails defender’s return

Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush says the timing of Fabio Aurelio’s return from injury couldn’t have come at a better time.

Aurelio missed the start of the season with a knee injury picked up whilst on holiday in Brazil over the summer, but could return to play in this Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to Burnley.

Rush believes the return of the left-back will give the Reds a new dimension.

“It’s good to see that Aurelio is close to returning to action after injury,” he said.

“Johnson has made the right sided role his own this season but the other side is still up for grabs.

“Aurelio offers a different option to Emiliano Insua and it’s up to him to stake a claim for a regular spot.

Burnley are the visitors to Anfield on Saturday and they have had a promising start with home wins against Manchester United and Everton.

“They will get men behind the ball and try to make it difficult for us but it’s a game we have to win. After the home defeat against Villa we need a big performance at Anfield.”
