Gillett confirms Saudi’s are not buying Liverpool

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has confirmed that there are no talks underway which would lead to Prince Faisal of Saudi Arabia buying a stake in the club.

It had been reported recently that Gillett was ready to sell his 50% stake in the club to the Prince and his Saudi bases investment group, F6.

But the Prince denied yesterday that his communication with Gillett was part of a deal to buy into Liverpool, and today Gillett confirmed the same, adding that the only business deal he has with the Prince is into establishing Liverpool Football Club branded sports academies in Saudi Arabia.

In a short statement Gillett announced, “We – and the Prince supports this – categorically deny we had any conversation along those lines. The purpose of my trip is to talk about Liverpool football academies and stock car racing.

“We may discuss [buying into Liverpool] at some point in the future. But I say again that is not on our agenda. There have been no discussions.”
