Fulham 3-1 Liverpool: Halloween horror at Craven Cottage

Liverpool suffered an absolute horror show as they lost 3-1 to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

Missing 11 first team players, including Johnson, Gerrard and Aquilani, the Reds went behind to Bobby Zamora’s goal in the first half but Fernando Torres equalised superbly just before half-time.

The second half saw the horror show in full flow. Rafa Benitez removed Torres – seemingly with no injury but with Wednesday’s Champions League game against Lyon in mind – which gave Fulham added impetus and they re-took the lead shortly after.

Benitez decided to remove Benayoun, again, presumably with the Lyon game in mind and Benayoun clearly looked unhappy at his removal, much like Torres. Things got worse when Philipp Degen was harshly sent off and within minutes Jamie Carragher received a straight red putting the Reds down to 9 men. Fulham added a third before Benitez removed Kuyt. If he’d have had any more subs left no doubt Reina would have made way for youngster Gulacsi to make his debut.

Inspired stuff from the manager. 5 league defeats already and anything less than a win on Wednesday and we’re pretty much out the Champions League. Roll on next season.
