Liverpool go into this game knowing that anything short of victory will make their chances of progressing in the Champions League this season very bleak indeed.
The Reds currently sit third in group E after three games, 3 points behind second place Fiorentina and 6 points behind opponents Lyon.
Two consecutive defeats to Fiorentina and Lyon have put Rafa Benitez’s men in a difficult position to qualify with three games left to play in the Champions League group stage.
When the two sides met at Anfield two weeks ago, Lyon came from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory and subject the Reds to their fourth consecutive defeat.
Benitez is unlikely to have captain Steven Gerrard available. The midfielder is still struggling with a groin injury.
However, Benitez could welcome back Alberto Aquilani and Glen Johnson who were forced to miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Fulham.
