“Blame us, not Rafa” pleads Torres

Fernando Torres says that sacking Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez would not solve any of the problems currently facing the club.

The Reds’ season went from bad to worse at the weekend as they went down 2-0 to bottom of the table Portsmouth – their seventh league defeat of the season.

The bad form has put immense pressure on the shoulders of Benitez, with some sections of fans and media calling for him to be axed from the Anfield hot seat.

But Torres has leapt to the defence of his boss, claiming it is the players’ performances and confidence that must improve to get the Reds out of their rut.

He said, “I think sacking the manager is not a solution.

“We have to play much better. The players are the people that have to find a solution to the situation.”

“It’s a difficult situation but every top team in the world goes sometimes through a bad situation like Liverpool now. Like every top team in the world, Liverpool will get over the situation.”
