Loan Watch: San Jose on target and on-form

Spanish centre back Mikel San Jose scored his second goal in two weeks for Athletic Bilbao in their 2-0 win over Real Zaragoza at the weekend.

The 20 year old was last month reported to be frustrated at the lack of opportunities given to him at Bilbao this season, having only played 7 minutes until recently, with an early return to Anfield in January mooted.

But his goal against Zaragoza, a powerful header, added to his first goal for the club against Austria Vienna in Europe two weeks ago on his first start since re-joining Bilbao on a season-loan this summer. Since then he’s started both their subsequent league games, against Valencia and Zaragoza.

San Jose signed for Liverpool from Bilbao in August 2007. He was an unused sub in the away match with Chelsea in February 2008 and has impressed in the Reds reserves.
