Maxi to take pay cut to join Reds

ATLETICO MADRID V PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

Maxi Rodriguez’s arrival at Liverpool could be imminent, with his agent saying the chances of a transfer are “high”.

Reports today suggest the Argentine winger will take a pay-cut to secure a loan move to Liverpool, as we reported exclusively on January 1st.

Maxi is understood to favour a move to the Premier League and join up with his national team captain Javier Mascherano on Merseyside ahead of the summer’s World Cup in South Africa. This despite claims by Spanish journalist Guillem Balague over the weekend that Boca Juniors were the 29-year-old’s most likely destination.

Rodriguez is out-of-favour at Atletico Madrid and his £4.4m per year salary was believed to have been a potential problem in any move to Anfield, but reports now suggest the player is willing to take a pay-cut in order to join the Reds this January.

Maxi’s agent Jurgen Milewksi said “There is no news currently at present. But I can say the chances of a transfer are high.”

Rodriguez has 35 caps to his name and is normally played on the right of midfield but can also play on the left.
