Preview: Wigan v Liverpool

Football - Wigan Athletic v Liverpool Barclays Premier League

After a week without any action, Liverpool make the short trip to Wigan on Monday night.

The Reds are boosted by the recent returns of Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun from injury, whilst Glen Johnson’s long-awaited return from the sidelines is also imminent. Sotirios Kyrgiakos is also available after suspension.

Martin Skrtel suffered a broken metatarsal last week and Daniel Agger is struggling with bruising after the win over Blackburn, meaning Jamie Carragher could return to the centre of defence.

Wigan come off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City and linger just one point out of the relegation zone.

Liverpool won the reverse of this fixture back in December when goals from Torres and David Ngog helped them to a 2-1 victory over the Roberto Martinez’s side.

However, this fixture last season saw Wigan hold Liverpool to a frustrating 1-1 draw. The Reds conceded late after Benayoun had given them a first half lead.

The Reds have just three days after this to prepare for the first leg of their Europa League tie with Lille. That’s followed by three games within a week, Portsmouth, Lille and Manchester Utd the following week.

Kick-off is 8pm (GMT) live on ESPN in the UK and USA.
