Rafael van der Vaart is a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool on several occasions in recent years, and again this week is being linked with a summer transfer from Real Madrid.
The former Ajax man was linked on many occasion even during Gerard Houllier’s reign at Anfield, and was again last summer when Xabi Alonso departed for the Spanish capital.
The latest reports, in The Guardian and Daily Mail suggest Liverpool and Real officials met in Madrid this week, with van der Vaart being offered as he is deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeau.
The 27 year old Dutchman has made only 7 appearances for the La Liga side this season but with Real looking to recoup much of the €13m they paid Hamburg in 2008, any move will be subject to Liverpool’s finances.
