Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt says he and his Dutch teammates were left angry after their World Cup Final defeat to Spain on Sunday night, pointing to English referee Howard Webb’s performance as a reason for their defeat.
Holland went down 1-0 to a 116th minute Andres Iniesta strike in a physical contest in which Webb produced 14 yellow cards, and one red.
After the game, Kuyt said, “We are angry that we lost because we came so close. I know you cannot blame others, but the referee favoured Spain.
“We had many more yellow cards than we deserved. That ultimately cost us the cup.”
