Torres dropped, but joins Kuyt in final

Spain 1-0 Germany
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres was dropped from Spain’s starting line-up for last night’s crunch World Cup Semi-Final with Germany in South Africa.

After a frustrating tournament for Torres, who until recently was carrying a knee injury that saw him miss the end of the season for Liverpool, Barcelona striker Pedro was preferred up front for the Spaniards.

And thanks to defender Carlos Puyol’s 73rd minute header, Spain beat the Germans 1-0 to book themselves into their first ever World Cup Final – against Holland on Sunday night.

Torres made a brief appearance late on and looked sharp, teasing the German defence as he looked to run down the clock for his country.

So Torres (and Reina, also in the Spain squad) will come face-to-face with Reds teammate Dirk Kuyt and the Dutch in Sunday night’s final (kick-off 7.30pm).
