Goalkeeper Charles Itandje has been released by Liverpool after agreeing a move to Greek Super League club Atromitos.
The Frenchman arrived at Anfield in 2007 to provide cover for Pepe Reina. He made a total of 7 appearances in the League and FA Cups, his last being the defeat to Barnsley. The following summer Rafa Benitez signed Diego Cavalieri and made Itandje available for transfer but he turned down a move to Galatasaray due to his wage demands.
He caused outrage when he was seen laughing and joking during the 20th Hillsborough memorial service in 2009, which prompted Benitez to suspend the player and eventually saw an ‘apology’ from the player. He spent last season on loan to Greek side Kavala. Again he refused to leave the club on his return this summer, despite not being given a squad number or being in the official team photo and not wanted by anybody associated with the club.
His contract at Liverpool was set to expire in the summer but has now been released and will join Atromitos on January 1st.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
