Babel on verge of Hoffeneheim switch

Ryan Babel is currently undergoing medical tests ahead of a reported £7million move from Liverpool to Hoffenheim.

The Dutch international striker has struggled to cement a regular first team place since moving to Anfield in the summer of 2007 and has hinted several times in the press that he may be looking for an exit from Merseyside.

An official statement from Liverpool this afternoon reads, “Liverpool FC this afternoon announced they had accepted a bid from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the transfer of Dutch international Ryan Babel.

“The Bundesliga Club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who has travelled to Germany.”

German newspaper Bild reports that Dietmar Hopp, the club’s biggest financial backer told them, “Babel was one of the preferred candidates who our manager, Ernst Tanner, was most convinced by.”

Reports this morning had carried quotes from Babel suggesting he could be part of a player-swap deal that would see Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez leave Ajax for the Reds.
