Deadline day: Reds still in hunt for striker

The final day of the transfer window arrives, along with the hysteria that comes with it;

Sky Sports News and their iPads / iWalls, going into overdrive over news that broke online hours before; Jim White bursting to give the latest updates; Harry Redknapp driving in and out of Spurs’ training ground continually so he can talk to Sky and tell them how they have attempted to sign one of Europe’s biggest names – but failed.

As for Liverpool, the final day is likely to see more departures than arrivals at Anfield. We expect Joe Cole to complete a move to Lille, Christian Poulsen will hopefully follow him to France to join Ligue 1 newboys Evian Thonon Gaillard, and David Ngog is subject of a bid from Bolton Wanderers. Leaving only Philipp Degen hiding behind the bins at Melwood.

Having completed the signing of defender Sebastian Coates yesterday, attentions turn to acquiring another forward to strengthen Kenny Dalglish‘s radically overhauled squad this summer.

Craig Bellamy remains his number one target, according to reports, but his potential move from Man City is described as being extremely complicated.

There have also been reports linking Mauro Zárate – the Lazio and Argentina forward / winger – with a loan move to Merseyside.

Elsewhere around the Premier League, Shaun Wright-Phillips is set to join QPR, Owen Hargreaves has somehow passed a medical at Man City and Arsenal are about to panic buy for the first time under Arsene Wenger’s reign. It’s sure to be an interesting day!
